Dermal Fillers

One of the most popular cosmetic treatments, Dermal Fillers can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, replace lost volume or add definition.

What is filler?

Dermal Filler is a substance that can be injected into the face to improve its appearance. At around the age of 25, the body stops producing collagen and elastin, the two proteins that work together to keep tissue firm and skin elastic, and the existing collagen in the body begins to break down.

Without these two proteins, the body begins to display the typical signs of ageing (things like sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, deep lines and wrinkles) as the body no longer has a means of keeping tissue strong and skin supple.

How does it work?

Fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a water-loving molecule that binds up to 400x its weight in water. It works like a sponge and fills up with water upon injection, filling out fine lines/wrinkles and plumping the treated area. Hyaluronic acid keeps young skin hydrated, but as we age, this volume of hyaluronic acid decreases and fine lines begin to appear that will eventually turn into wrinkles. In the lips, this causes thinning, loss of fullness, volume and definition. Other factors can also cause lines to worsen, wrinkles to deepen and volume to be lost, such as sun exposure, lifestyle and muscle imbalances etc.

Where can I get fillers?

Fillers can be used to target fine lines and wrinkles or add volume and definition into lots of different areas of the face. Find out about each of these areas below:

Lip Fillers

Lip fillers, also known as lip augmentation, enhance your lips and result in more volume, contour and definition - depending on the clients desired effect. They reduce the appearance of fine lines, give you fuller lips and a more youthful appearance.

The lip filler we use is dermal filler, the most popular brands we use are Teosyal, Juvederm and Princess filler which come from hyaluronic acid.

We all have hyaluronic acid in our bodies already. It gives our skin the elasticity and plumpness that gives us our youthful appearance. Both fillers are produced as a gel and neither of them contain animal or human DNA which means it is one of the safest fillers on the market today.

Jaw Fillers

This is beneficial to those who have concerns or complexes about the appearance and shape of their jawline.

Some people can have a sagging jawline, which can be a sign of ageing or the after effects of rapid weight loss. Others may genetically have a weak jawline which can affect confidence. A defined jawline is a very desirable look, and a strong jawline can look striking and also give a more youthful look. Dermal fillers can be used to stiffen and fill out loose skin on the jawline and define the jowl area, decreasing the weakness of an undesirable jawline. Dermal filler to the jaw can also give a face lift effect by improving the definition. Jawline filler isn't for everyone and will not be successful if you carry excess weight in this area or simply have no jawline to work with. If you are unsure whether you are a good candidate for jawline filler, we advise you to have a free consultation prior to your main appointment.

The amount of filler needed in this area shouldn't be underestimated. Expect to need at least 2-4ml for even the most natural result (women) 4-6ml (men).

Chin Fillers

When injected into the chin, fillers can lengthen a round face and achieve the perfect proportion. It can also move the chin forwards to create the perfect ratio between the nose, lips and chin. Dermal fillers on the chin can also be used to fill wrinkles and folds, making the appearance of the chin more aesthetically pleasing.

From the front, we can give the illusion of weight loss, contour and more definition.

From the side, we can balance the profile (make the nose appear smaller, balance an overbite etc), give the illusion of a sharper jaw and thus slightly reduce the appearance of a double chin.

Do not underestimate the power of a chin. It is one of, if not the most effective procedure within the entire aesthetic industry.

Cheek Fillers

Filler to the cheeks can be the solution to a lot of your worries. If injected correctly on to the bone, it can add support to the lower face and help with sagging on the jawline.

Suddenly lost weight? Fat loss around the middle of your face can make you look tired and gaunt, cheek filler can fill these areas nicely and naturally to give you back your youthful look. Your practitioner will tailor your treatment to suit YOU and different fillers and needs can be discussed at your appointment.

Tear Trough Fillers

Tear trough filler is an instant and natural looking correction to hollows under the eyes. Please note, not everyone is suitable for this procedure. The ideal candidate should have sufficient skin thickness and no excess sagging as they will not be able to hold product within the parameters.

Hollows can develop from an early age and can be caused by genetics, lack of sleep, stress, poor diet, and through the normal process as we age. It can help with dark circles but this is not guaranteed. 2 treatments are usually recommended, roughly 9-12 weeks apart.

Nasolabial Fold and Marionette Line Fillers

As you get older, you may begin to notice lines and wrinkles around the mouth area. These can be in the form of lines or folds between the nose and mouth, called nasolabial folds.

There might also be lines from the edge of your mouth to your chin, which are called marionette lines. If you are a smoker, you may also have lines around your top lip. These lines and many others like it can be treated with non-surgical procedures using dermal filler.
